Irfan Habib

Irfan Habib is professor emeritus at the Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University. In 2005 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award. He was the president of the Indian History Congress in 1981 and the chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research from 1987 to 1993. He is an elected corresponding fellow at the British Royal Historical Society since 1998 and an honorary fellow at New College, Oxford since 2021.
