Hugo Loetscher
Hugo Loetscher (1929–2009), widely known as the most cosmopolitan Swiss writer, worked as literature reviewer for Neue Zürcher Zeitung and Weltwoche, and as editor of the magazine Du. He also founded the literary supplement Das Wort. He was writer-in-residence in 1979–80 at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. In 1981–82 he held the Swiss Chair at the City University of New York. He was guest lecturer at several universities, including the University of Munich, the Universidade do Porto, the Shanghai International Studies University, and the University of California at Berkeley. In 1992, he received the prestigious Schiller Prize of the Swiss Schiller Foundation.
