Ilse Aichinger
Ilse Aichinger (1921–2016) was an Austrian poet and prose writer whose work, often surreal and presented in the form of parables, reflects her preoccupation with the Nazi persecution of the Jews during the Second World War. Her only novel, Herod’s Children, was published in 1948. In addition to her novel, Aichinger’s works include The Bound Man and Other Stories (1951) and Bad Words (1976).
