Carla Lonzi

Born in Florence in 1931, Carla Lonzi was an Italian art critic and feminist activist. She is best known as the author of the experimental art book Autoritratto (Self-Portrait, 1969), and the cofounder of the political collective Rivolta Femminile (Feminine Revolt). Her militancy and writings opened up a new line of feminist practice and exposed the patriarchal dimension of artistic production and reception in post-war Italy.
