Satyajit Ray
Satyajit Ray (1921–1992) was a writer, illustrator, and one of the greatest filmmakers of the twentieth century who brought world recognition to Indian cinema. Noted for his humanism, versatility, and detailed control over his films and their music, Ray received several awards from film festivals at Cannes, Berlin, Venice and Moscow, as well as an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement in 1992.
