Reinhard Jirgl

Reinhard Jirgl was born in Berlin, GDR in 1953. While his writing was subject to restriction in the GDR, six completed manuscripts were ready for publication by 1989 when the border between East and West Germany opened. Among his most important novels are Abschied von den Feinden (Farewell to Enemies, 1995), Die atlantische Mauer (The Atlantic Wall, 2000), Die Unvollendeten (The Unfinished, 2003), Abtrünnig (Renegade, 2005), Die Stille (Stillness, 2009) and Nichts von euch auf Erden (Deserted Earth, 2013). His work has brought him numerous prizes including Germany’s most renowned literary award, the Georg Büchner Prize (2010).
